Join ARI for events all summer long!

Exploring History (Ages 5-8)

Event Description:

CAMP REGISTRATION OPENS ON February 1st!

Join us for an exciting half-day summer camp designed specifically for aspiring archaeologists between the ages of 5 and 8. Our camp offers a unique opportunity to delve into the world of archaeology, conservation, and scientific discovery. Located in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, our Base Camp serves as the launching point for exploring the fascinating history of our region.

Throughout the week, campers will engage in hands-on educational activities that integrate STEM learning. Under the guidance of professional archaeologists, they will learn the art of excavation and gain insight into the scientific processes that drive archaeological research. Additionally, they will participate in experiments, such as using an atlatl and crafting pottery through experimental archaeology.

Beyond archaeology, participants will also have the opportunity to explore native plants, and delve into the field of anthropology. At the end of the week, campers will showcase their newfound knowledge to their families, ARI staff, and field school students.

By the end of the camp, young archaeologists will leave with a deep appreciation for the preservation of archaeological sites, a comprehensive understanding of the insights gleaned from excavations and artifact study, and a solid foundation in the scientific principles underlying archaeology.

What’s Included:

  • Four half days of guided archaeological experiences at notable locations like the Guard Archaeological Site and the ARI Teaching Lab
  • Camp T-Shirt to commemorate the experience
  • Engaging educational materials and resources

Spaces are limited to only 10 participants per session, so be sure to secure your spot early. In the event that the initial session fills up, we will open a waitlist and consider offering a second session to accommodate the demand.
