Join us for an exciting half-day summer camp designed specifically for aspiring archaeologists between the ages of 5 and 8. Our camp offers a unique opportunity to delve into the world of archaeology, conservation, and scientific discovery. Located in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, our Base Camp serves as the launching point for exploring the fascinating history of our region.
Throughout the week, campers will engage in hands-on educational activities that integrate STEM learning. Under the guidance of professional archaeologists, they will learn the art of excavation and gain insight into the scientific processes that drive archaeological research. Additionally, they will participate in experiments, such as using an atlatl and crafting pottery through experimental archaeology.
Beyond archaeology, participants will also have the opportunity to explore native plants, delve into the field of anthropology, and create their own research questions. At the end of the week, campers will showcase their newfound knowledge to their families, ARI staff, and field school students.
By the end of the camp, young archaeologists will leave with a deep appreciation for the preservation of archaeological sites, a comprehensive understanding of the insights gleaned from excavations and artifact study, and a solid foundation in the scientific principles underlying archaeology.
