AmeriCorps Program Manager

The Archaeological Research Institute (ARI) is seeking a program manager for our ArchaeoCorps Program. ArchaeoCorps is our AmeriCorps funded program that creates capacity building positions for nonprofit organizations in Southeast Indiana, Northern Kentucky, and Southwestern Ohio with missions similar to that of ARI. Our Mission and Goal is to preserve and conserve local lands with potential archaeological sites and to educate the public about the importance of preservation, conservation, and proper land stewardship of these regional cultural and historic sites.   

POSITION OVERVIEW: 

The AmeriCorps Program Manager (APM) manages the ArchaeoCorps (AmeriCorps) program for the Archaeological Research Institute (ARI). The APM brings ARI’s mission to life by building capacity through onboarding AmeriCorps placements, assisting in the securing of funding, and managing relationships with community partners. The APM serves as an ambassador for ARI and the program, advancing the organization’s mission of preserving cultural heritage, educating the public on land stewardship, and involving descendant communities in archaeological research.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

AmeriCorps Member Management & Recruitment (35%)

  • Facilitate the recruitment, interview, and selection process for ArchaeoCorps/AmeriCorps members annually.
  • Conduct background checks per AmeriCorps standards.
  • Stay up to date with all training.
  • Conduct monthly check-ins and oversee their development.
  • Ensure supervisors schedule mid-year and end-of-year performance reviews.
  • Coordinate and facilitate member training, onboarding, and professional development sessions.

 

Program Management (30%)

  • Manage administrative duties including timesheets, expense reports, and compliance with federal and organizational policies.
  • Oversee program activities, ensuring compliance with AmeriCorps regulations and successful implementation of program objectives.
  • Advocate for members and their professional progress

 

Community Partnership Management & Development (20%)

  • Build and maintain relationships with nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and corporate partners to develop new service sites and expand the program.
  • Conduct monthly check-ins with service site supervisors and ensure successful member placements.
  • Network within the community to promote the AmeriCorps program and cultivate potential partnerships

 

Administrative and Managerial Duties (10%)

  • Contribute to ARI’s strategic and operational planning efforts.
  • Manage project budgets, staff, and volunteers involved in the ArchaeoCorps program.
  • Participate in recruitment efforts for additional ARI staff as needed.
  • Ensure accurate documentation and recordkeeping for compliance and reporting.

 

Outreach, Funding, and Other (5%)

  • Seek funding through grants, contracts, and partnerships to support ARI’s mission and the ArchaeoCorps program.
  • Participate in community outreach events, conferences, and professional organizations to raise awareness of ARI’s work.
  • Strengthen relationships with existing partners while developing new opportunities for collaboration.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in program management, particularly with AmeriCorps or other national service programs.
  • Demonstrated experience in recruiting, managing, and mentoring teams.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to build and sustain relationships across diverse populations.
  • Experience with data collection and program evaluation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data management systems.
  • Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle required for local travel.
  • Pass federal and state background checks

 

Working Conditions:

  • Based in Lawrenceburg, IN, with occasional travel for site visits and events.
  • Flexible work environment with a combination of office-based and on-site work.
  • ARI is closed during Thanksgiving and Christmas weeks, providing additional paid time off

Position Title: AmeriCorps Program Manager

Reports to: Executive Director, Deputy Director

Manages: ArchaeoCorps Members (indirectly – ie, AmeriCorps specific requirements), Supervisors (indirectly – ie, AmeriCorps specific requirements), Service Sites

Location: Lawrenceburg, IN

Type: Full-Time, Exempt

Compensation: $40,000 – $45,000 annually, with semi-monthly paychecks  

Benefits:  Health insurance (available after 30 days), Simple IRA with up to 3% matching (after 30 days), 20 paid vacation days (after six months), 5 paid sick days, and 5 paid personal days

Work Schedule: Tuesday – Saturday; flexible, with some evenings and weekends required.

This is a Grant-Funded Position, running from August 2023 to August 2027. There is an opportunity to continue, pending a grant application renewal for an additional three years beginning August 2027
