May through October we open up a local archaeological heritage site for the public to join in the responsible & respectful excavation and exploration into past cultures. ARI’s hands on experiences are open to students of all ages and skill levels that yearn to know and experience more. Join us in exploring our local past, learning about archaeology, understanding the importance of preservation and make your own archaeological discoveries.

(Starting in June) Kids 11 and under can enjoy their own excavation at the archaeological site. They are guaranteed to find artifacts. They will be using the same techniques that our staff archaeologists use in the main unit with visitors and volunteers (excavation, screening, artifact analysis), only in a controlled setting that can prevent damage to the archaeological features. The junior experience includes a nature walk around the archaeological site, talks with staff archaeologists over at the main unit excavation and hands-on work in their Junior Unit. Staff will guide them through the experience, but a parent or guardian must be present.
