Adult Group Lab Experiences

Event Description:

Join us at the Archaeological Research Institute (ARI) for a unique and hands-on archaeological lab experience designed for individuals aged 12 and up. If you and your group are fascinated by archaeology and eager to immerse yourselves in the world of artifacts, this is the perfect opportunity for you!

During this experience, you will have the chance to work alongside ARI archaeologists and engage in various tasks involved in artifact analysis. The day begins with a comprehensive introduction to the field of archaeology, where you will learn about its importance, methodologies, and the significance of regional archaeological contexts. We will delve into the cultures that we are currently studying and provide you with an overview of our research plan and the questions we aim to answer.

In the second part of the experience, you will have the privilege of touring the ARI archaeological lab. This behind-the-scenes glimpse will allow you to witness firsthand the ongoing research projects and interact with archaeologists actively involved in excavations and analysis. You will have the opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations with the experts, gaining valuable insights into their work and the intricacies of archaeological interpretation.

However, the highlight of the day lies in your active involvement in archaeological preservation. You and your group will roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty as you contribute to the artifact cleaning, sorting, weighing, and counting processes. Under the guidance of our experienced archaeologists, you will learn proper techniques for handling and caring for artifacts from both historic and pre-contact contexts.

By participating in this lab experience, you will not only gain a deeper understanding of archaeology but also make a tangible impact on the preservation of our cultural heritage. Your efforts in washing and sorting artifacts will contribute to the documentation and organization of our extensive collections, ensuring their long-term conservation and accessibility for future generations.

Please note that this experience is ideally suited for groups ranging from 12 to 25 individuals. If you have a larger group, we encourage you to reach out to Samy, our Director of Programming, at samy@exploreari.org. Samy will be delighted to work with you to customize a memorable archaeological lab experience that accommodates your group size.

Immerse yourself in the fascinating world of archaeology, gain hands-on experience in artifact analysis, and contribute to the preservation of our cultural heritage. Join us at the Archaeological Research Institute for an unforgettable adventure!
