Mark your calendars for our 2nd annual Pumpkin Stem event!
At the Archaeological Research Institute (ARI), learning isn’t confined to the classroom — it happens in the field, in our labs, and along the riverbanks where history comes alive beneath your feet. Whether you’re a curious kid, a lifelong learner, or an adventurer at heart, ARI’s educational programs offer something for everyone.
Our youth programs invite young explorers to roll up their sleeves and experience archaeology firsthand: get dirty at one of our dig sites, investigate artifacts in our Learning Center, or learn about the lives of people who once lived in the area through an Augmented Reality Tour guided by Rex, ARI’s senior “barkeologist.” Summer camps are available for kids of all ages—sign-up early so you don’t miss out!
History buffs and lifelong learners can take their curiosity even further through ARI’s adult workshops, lectures, and field experiences. Our expert-led programs delve into archaeology, ancient technologies, and the cultural heritage of the Great Miami River Valley. Whether joining a site tour or trying your hand at experimental archaeology, adults are encouraged to connect past and present in meaningful ways.
For those who love learning while exploring, the Great Miami Heritage Tour is an unforgettable journey through time. Participants travel through key archaeological and historical sites, guided by ARI’s knowledgeable staff who share insights into the region’s deep cultural roots — from early Native American settlements to pioneering communities. It’s a chance to experience history where it happened and see how the land itself holds the memory of generations.
Rain or shine, ARI’s programs balance indoor lab experiences with outdoor field adventures. Visitors can engage with real artifacts in our interpretive center, then step outside to walk the same grounds where ancient peoples once lived and worked. This immersive approach makes history tangible — something you can see, touch, and truly understand.
At ARI, education isn’t about memorizing dates — it’s about uncovering connections. Our programs invite every participant, young or old, to become part of the discovery process and help preserve the stories that shape our shared heritage.
Whether you’re a local or visiting from out of town, ARI offers one of the most unique things to do in Lawrenceburg, Indiana: hands-on archaeology for all ages. Explore our website to learn more about upcoming educational programs, tours, and events for all ages.
