Hands on History: Hafting Workshop

For thousands of years, people shaped their world by attaching stone, bone, and metal tools to wooden handles—a process known as hafting. In this hands-on history and archaeology workshop, participants will learn traditional hafting techniques used by ancient cultures around the world.

This practical session covers material preparation, fitting toolheads to shafts, and securing tools using natural adhesives, bindings, and lashing methods. Participants will explore how prehistoric peoples engineered strong, durable tool connections and what these technologies reveal about early innovation, problem-solving, and craftsmanship.

Perfect for history enthusiasts, educators, students, and makers, this interactive ancient technology workshop brings prehistoric engineering to life through real-world skills and experimentation.
